[tweetmeme source= “thequinnlytimes” only_single=false]Sometime today (or last week – or last month, who knows? I don’t.) Turkish Twitter user Bora Kırca dicovered a Twitter bug that would let someone force someone else to follow said person by simply typing “accept username” (for instance, typing “accept billgates” would force Bill Gates to follow you). He supposedly dicovered this “on accident“, by tweeting “accept pwnz.” Why? he apparently likes a group called “Accept”, and to show his love, tweeted that. But instead of seeing the tweet posted, Twitter user pwnz started following him. He then did what any other person would do – make famous people follow him. Twitter’s answer to this mess:
We identified and resolved a bug that permitted a user to “force” other users to follow them. We’re now working to rollback all abuse of the bug that took place. Follower/following numbers are currently at 0; we’re aware and this too should shortly be resolved.
Every Twitter user’s followers and following were temporarily reduced to zero; It appears this mess has been taken care of now.
